Operation Smile: 2,296 children rescued since Jan 1

Hyderabad: Operation Smile-VIII carried out by the police across the State for a month from January 1 helped in rescuing as many as 2,296 children including 489 girls.

Of the total rescued children, 2,432 of them were handed over to their parents and guardians and 353 were admitted to rescue homes while 812 children belong to other State/country.

The police teams also rescued 165 street children along with 1413 children working as labourers and 236 were rescued from brick kilns. Nineteen-seven children, who were seeking alms, were also rescued. As many as 874 children were rescued from various other works.

About 293 children details were enrolled in darpan application and 279 children were compared with missing children data during the Operation Smile. In all, 342 FIRs were registered under various sections of laws and identified 360 accused persons.

Thirty-one Anti-Human Trafficking teams were formed in all the Police Commissionerates and districts. They actively involved during the drive and collected previous under investigation and un-detected missing cases and updated 293 child records on Track Child Portal and Darpan Application.

They started systematic collection of missing cases by forming daily situation report. They worked in close collaboration with Women Safety Wing to trace the children. The Cyberabad police topped the list compared to other police units by rescuing 461 children from January 1 to 31.

Fifty-four cases were also registered against the owners of industries and establishments for violating Labour Act and JJ Act. Darpan has also enabled the police to trace an eight-year-old boy found by Child Welfare Committee at Gulbarga in Karnataka in November 2021.

Mahbubnagar Sub-Inspector Abdul Khader traced the boy through darpan application on January 5. Separate girl missing cases in Ramagundam Police Commissionerate and Nalgonda, and a woman and two girls missing case in Nalgonda were also detected.

An overhead electrical equipment failure was reported near Moulali on Sunday night after power lines reportedly snapped over a moving Intercity Express.

Hyderabad: Overhead electrical equipment (OHE) failure was reported between Secunderabad and Lalaguda stations on Sunday night, after power lines reportedly snapped over a moving Intercity Express near Moulali. The incident occurred around 10 pm, caused a loud noise, following which the train was stopped near Moulali as a precaution. Some passengers reportedly stepped out of the train amid confusion. The South Central Railway officials immediately launched restoration measures. According to the railway authorities, there were no casualties or injuries in the incident. A few trains were detained or regulated for less than 10 minutes and were subsequently allowed to resume normal operations. Train No. 12795 Vijayawada–Lingampalli Express, which was detained in the section, was being moved towards Secunderabad. Railway authorities clarified that both up and down train services are now operating normally.
