Warangal Urban: At least 12 top Maoist leaders including two Central Committee Members (CCM), Katakarm Sudharshan alias Aanand and Tippari Thirupathi alias Devuj, have been suffering from the novel coronavirus for the last several days, according to Danda Karanya Special Zone Divisional Committee (DKSZCM) secretary of outlawed CPI Maoist party, Gaddam Madhukar alias Mohan alias Shobroy, who was arrested by the police here on Tuesday.
The other top leaders of the outlawed CPI Maoists suffering from the COVID-19 are: Yapa Narayana alias Haribhushan alias Lakma, Telangana State Committee Secretary, Bade Chokka Rao alias Damodar, Telagana State Committee Member (TSCM), Kankanala Raji Reddy alias Dharmanna alias Venkatesh, TSCM, Katta Ramchandra Reddy alias Vikalp, DKSZCM, DKSZC Spokesperson, Mula Devender Reddy alias Masa Dada, DKSZCM, Kunkati Venkataiah alias Vikas, South Bastar DVC Secretary, Muchaki Ungal alias Raghu alias Sudhakar, DVCM & Venkatapuram- Wazeedu ACS, Kodi Manjula alias Nirmala, South Bastar, DVCM, Pusam Padma, ACM, wife of Anand, CCM, and Kakarla Sunitha alis Budra, ACM, Regional Political School.
The suspicion of the police that the COVID-19 is ravaging the Maoist cadre was proved right with the confirmation by the arrested Maoist leader. And it is learnt that some of them succumbed to the deadly virus.
Disclosing the details at a press conference here on Wednesday, Warangal CP Tarun Joshi said that the Matwada police had arrested the DKSZDC secretary of the outlawed CPI Maoist party, Gaddam Madhukar and a courier (aged below 18) during a vehicle checkup near Mulugu crossroads here on Tuesday. The police said that Madhukar was suffering from COVID-19 for the last several days and he came to Warangal for the treatment with the help of a minor courier.
Madhukar, a native of Kondapally village of Bejjur mandal in Kumuram Bheem Asifabad district joined the Sirpur dalam of the then People’s War Group (PGW) in 1999. “He was shifted to Dandakaranya Special Zone Committee following the directions of the party. Since then, he was involved in several offences including killing of the police personnel and snatching away the weapons,” the CP said.
Referring to the courier, Joshi said that the minor had stopped his Polytechnic diploma in the middle and started a career as a car driver to eke out a living. “Meanwhile, the minor boy was introduced to Maoist party courier Namindla Naresh by a friend Jaswanth in connection with a land dispute issue. Naresh called the minor on May 31 and asked him to help to provide treatment for Madhukar in a hospital in Hanamkonda. Following this, the minor went to Venkatapuram forest area via Eturunagaram in a car and was coming to Hanamkonda while Madhukar was lying in the car’s dickey,” the CP said and added that they had arrested both of them, and seized Rs 88,000 cash from them. Madhukar was admitted to a hospital for treatment.
Speaking on the issue of COVID infection among the Maoists, Joshi said that the Maoists were infected by the virus during a protest held by the people at a village Sildhur of Bijapur district against the police camp ten days ago. It is said that the Maoist party leadership was not allowing the COVID infected leaders unless their health condition deteriorates.
“One of the guards of Damodhar was nabbed by the Militia members when he tried to escape from the party camp to get the COVID treatment. But the party has not given permission to him to get the treatment,” he said and alleged that the Maoist party leadership was suppressing human rights by not allowing the party members to get the treatment for COVID-19. The CP promised that the government would provide treatment to the Maoists if they came out voluntarily from the party.
