According to the ACB, the police official had allegedly demanded money from the complainant, promising to help him in the case and ensure that he was not subjected to further harassment at the police station. The SI was caught while sitting in a car and receiving the cash.
The initial demand was reportedly Rs 8 lakh, which was later reduced to Rs 6 lakh. The complainant ultimately arranged Rs 5 lakh and handed it over to the SI, following which the ACB trapped him.
Though the SI was caught accepting the bribe, Keesara Inspector Arkepally Anjaneyulu was also booked in the case as he was allegedly involved in the demand for money.
Searches were subsequently conducted at the Keesara police station and other premises as part of the investigation.
Both the Inspector and SI were arrested in connection with the bribery case. Further investigation is underway.
